WAVERLEY.
[from our correspondent.']
The Election. —The Waverley people showed unmistakably who was the man of their choice, when they returned Mr Bridge by such a large majority.' It is, however, pretty generally allowed that some talked one way and voted another ; but such things often happen, and electors are frequently misunderstood, as the zealous canvasser for votes may mistake the meaning of evasive answers. Good Templars. —The new Town Hall was well filled on Thursday evening, when an entertainment was given by the Good Templars,.assisted- by friends. The programme consisted of addresses, recitations, and singing. The recitations were very creditable, and the singing was good, so far as it went; but one great attraction was wanting—there were no ladies taking part in the entertainment. It is to be hoped that when our friends favor us another entertainment, they may look the ladies, whose good-will operation go far to help any cause, cannot be that the Waverley ladies have no sympathy with a movement which has for its object the removal of one of the chief causes of domestic trouble. Sciiool Committee, This committee held its usual monthly meeting on Thursday evening, when Mr H. F. Mason was elected in the room of Mr Winchcomb, resigned. Mr Mason was an efficient chairman of the committee last year.
