Waverley Election.
(Telegram from a Correspondent .) Waverley, Wednesday Night. The election of. a Waverley Riding member to the County Council took place to-day. The voting was taken in the new Town Hall, Mr J. Black being returning officer. Four candidates had been nominated, but Mr H. F. Mason did not go to the poll. Two were Waverley settlers, and one Waitotara. Mr G. S. Bridge polled up to six o’clock a total of 87, all Waverley votes. Mr Wilson Milne, the retiring member seeking re-election, polled 58, all Waverley votes. Mr J. W. Durie polled 22 Waitotara votes and 20 Waverley, total 42. Mr G. S. Bridge was declared duly elected, with a majority of 29 over the second, and of 45 over the third. The proceedings have been quiet all through. Some keen economists here thought the fun was intolerably dull for a three-cornered duel. Mr Bridge was formerly chairman of the County Council, and should be a valuable addition to that important body.
