CANTERBURY STOCK. {Latest Report.) The attendance of buyers at the Addington yards was very satisfactory, and generally speaking competition for the various lots was brisk. The supply of stock was large, except in good quality store cattle, which were scarcely equal to requirements. Sheep. —The bidding for prime fat sheep ■was more spirited than last week, and a rise of about Is 6d per head was the result. The top price realised for best quality was 14s 9d ; good raging from lls to 13s, and light weights from 10s 1o 10s 9d. We quote at a shade over 2d per lb. The enquiry for store continues brisk at a slight advance on last week’s rates. Cattle. —Pricesjobtained were a shade better than last week. There was an improved enquiry for fat stock, and prime beef realised 18s: 6d per 1001b. Stores were uot very numerous, but were of good quality, and sold readily, the whole of the entries being cleared. Two-year-olds brought from £3 to £3 17s 6d. There is a good enquiry for well doing stock of this quality. CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE- ( Latest Report ) The week has been of a most uneventful character. The business done has neither been of an extensive nature, nor at prices which show any improvement on rates ruling for some little time past. Wheat presents much the same features as the previous week. Values remain at 3s 3d to 3s 5d for good samples, and 3s 6d for best quality. The supply of feed lots is abundant.
Oats are without alteration. For good feed we quote Is 2d to Is 3b. For best milling a better demand has been experienced, but prices have not been affected in any way. For this class of oats Is 4d to Is 4£d is quoted. Barley.— Barley remains hard to quit. For first-class, of which little comes forward, 3s 3d to 3s 6d is quoted, while good malting ranges between 2s 6d and 3s. For other kinds the range of prices is very wide. Flour is quoted at £9 to £lO according to brand. Potatoes are being offered at 275, but the enquhy is not over brisk at the moment. Dairy Produce. —Butter commands 9d to lOd ; cheese, 4d to4sd. CANTERBURY WOOL, SKINS, &c. Messrs Matson report At our Canterbury Wool Stores, there was an average attendance of the trade, and prices may be safely quoted as ruling 5 per cent higher than last week. Our catalogue consisted of 3880 sheepskins, 142 bags rough fat, 119 hides and calf-skins, 4 bales and 22 bags of wool, and a few packages tallow, every line offered eliciting keen cornpetiitionj and being sold at quotations as under yiz.j—Butcher’s best cross-bred sheep-skins 4s fid, to 5s 2d ; second quality, 3s to 4s 5d ; medium,; Is lid to 2s 1 Id. Butcher’s best merinos made 3s to 3s 9d each ; second quality, 2s to 2s lid medium, Is 4d to la lid each. Country skins, full wools, 4s fid to 6s 4d each, and one exceptionally good line brought 7s fid each. Butcher’s best rough fat made 2£ to 2f per lb ; inferior, none on offer. Hides, 3£ per lb ; tallow, from 21s to 25s per cwt ; wool, from fid to 8£ per lb.
