MARKETS.

LONDON HIDES AND LEATHER. The Hide market has been particularly steady, with a good active trade demand which augurs favourably for the future. We arc glad to note a revival in tins trade from Australia, which will certainly be more welcome to our English tanners than large imports of leather. At last sales (on Bth April) Sydney heavies sold at from s£d to s§d per lb, lights and cows at fjoin 4sd to 6|d. Melbourne hides were about a £d lower than these prices, but some really good bides from New Zealand realised the Sydney values. Leather was dull of sale on 9th of April at a reduction of |d per lb, values ranging from 10£ d to lljfd per lb. Basils are without change at from 9d to 17 Jd per lb according to quality. Another Hide and Leather sale is progressing to-day and to-morrow. —Johnson and Allsup, April 22. LONDON WHEAT. Wehaveto chronicle a fall of 4s to 4s fid per quarter, with every probability of much lower values as the summer approaches. Australian and New Zealand wheat have as yet suffered the least, but as the new harvest produce begins to arrive in quantity it must give way with the others. The present quotation of 54a for best quality is therefore probably delusive ; of Australian flour there is now a considerable stock, and the present value is 50s per 2801bs ex store. The weather has been extremely seasonable, the alternations of rain and sunshine being all that could be desired, while the night frosts have only done damage in very exposed places.—Johnson and Allsup, April 22.
