MR W.D. SHAW’S ASSIGNMENT.
Mr W. D. Shaw, ironmonger, of Victoria Avenue, has been again compelled to assign his estate, in November last Mr Shaw adopted this course, but so favourable was the statement presented to the creditors that a proposal to pay 20s in the & at given dates was unanimously accepted, and Mr Shaw resumed business. We learn the first engagements were met at the due date, and although trade has been in a depressed state, the second series of bills had been arranged for. An unforeseen contingent liability has been, however, pressed home upon Mr Shaw. In November last there was no prospect of this contingent liability becoming a charge upon Mr Shaw’s estate, therefore no provision was made for it by him. As it is now pressed Mr, Shaw has been forced info his present position. If the liability was discharged, the direct creditors could not be paid their second bills, and as the. Bank is firm in its demand for payment of this outside claim, Mr Shaw has deemed it advisable in the interests of all parties concerned to protect the estate.—Wanganui Herald.
