[FROM 0 UR CORRESPONDED T.] Waverley Volunteers.—There was a fair muster at the drill on Saturday afternoon, when the usual exercises Were gone through. Property Tax.—The papers relating to this tax are in circulation. They are disagreeably minute in detail, and if carried out to the letter there will be very little “ property” overlooked. The official questions that must be ; answered seem so formidable that many people, either from want of judgment or inclination, can never be expected to understand them. Main Road.—The main road, which is our principal street, has been repaired for the : winter. : Yet it is a pitiful piece of patchwork for a main road. What with gorge and gravel, the road looks as if an apology were. being made for not doing the work properly,. With.no
footpaths, and such a badly-finished high-crowned road, tire foot passenger this winter will have as great difficulty in moving about ns they had last season. It is to be hoped that our Town Board will soon be in a position to do what every member must know to be ncccssary. Queen’s Birthday. —The shooting at Patea was the chief attraction on Monday, and the holiday amusements seemed to centre at Patea. But we did assert our independence by holding a “ Waverley hall” on the evening. Of this, more anon.
