SIR W. FOX'S IDEAL.
It is a good thing to have an ideal. Sir, William Pox has gone’. According to him his Constitutional.'party that by-thc-by destroyed:the Constitution, has as its model the democracy of America, whilst the Liberals emulate the democracy of France. Sir Wiilian should speak for himself; he is not recognised as an authority on the aspiration of the Liberals. Let him keep to this elucidation of the aims and ideas of his' “ Constitutional ” brethren. And, we should desire him to enlighten us as to what he means by American democracy. Which party in America is his type ?; The Republicans or the Democrats? ; Does he believe in an elective President? If so, his party must agitate for.an elective Governor. Docs he approve of the four-yearly change in the Civil Service ? If so, his party must prepare this system next session., We admit there arc things in which the Constitutional party have imitated some American political doings. Is the Tammany business to be introduced in New Zealand? or the Ku-Klnx, clan? or Lynch law? or Sand; lot.riots? or Chinese labour? or railway, concession, frauds ? or whiskey rings ? or Wall street; cliques. Or booms. Really Sir, William, you should tell us what good American things,there; ; ;is in ; . store for us. t'hc French, poor people, eat frogs, are thrifty pay their debts, ; don’t drink, and arc cultured, and it would nevor do to imitate them. Does Sic William want to be President of New Zealand.- —Dunedin \IEqUo, : ' ;
