HAWERA.
A Scene was enacted in the street last evening, which was enjoyed by a largo crowd as an al fresco comedy. A travel" ling benefactor of his species, who has a maivellous tooth-powder supposed to have been a secret of the ancient Florentines, held forth last evening on the virtues of his wondrous dentriticc. He talked “ like a look,” and the people listened and grinned, but made no great purchase. Even the grand extra illumination of oil lamps did not draw money. But the vendor was willing to operate on the blackest-toothed subject in the crowd, to demonstrate the magic virtue of his dental specific. Some were incredulous, and jeered. The vendor had a temper, and could not stand jeering. A member of the ancient family of Smith stepped forward to question and make fun of the real original and only genuine Florentine tooth-powder, and the cute vendor felt that the dignity of his profession was not duly respected in Hawera,. and threatened to shako the dust off his feet to return no,more to clean liaweraian teeth. This terrible threat was on the r vcrge of execution, when friend Smith, an original in his way, consented not to provoke the learned man farther, mid the entertainment of selling tooth-powder was brought to a close with eclat.
