PATE A MAIL PUBLISHED Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. SATURDAY, MAY 1, 1880. TO MAJOR ATKINSON.

The member for this district is not aware of the peculiar anxiety felt by Patea politicians for a visit to his constituents, The Major is very much wanted. We may say, in commercial phrase, that the member for this district is in brisk demand, and that the market is getting tighter. Will Major Atkinson kindly remember that constituents expect to hear some account from their representative of his doings in the past, and his intentions in the future? As to the past, there is much to be said in this County that the Major might prefer not to hear. As to the present there are sundry questions of pressing importance that Patea politicians mean to bring into proper notice, either through Major Atkinson if he is reasonably sensible of liis duty to this neglected district, or through some other medium if the Major continues obdurate and indifferent. Then as to the future, the people of this district intend, we believe, to put before the Major a plain choice—; either that he shall represent onr interests by promoting them to the extent of his Ministerial opportunities, or that he and the voters shall come to a clear understanding to the contrary. Profession and practice should go together; and if Major Atkinson can persuade himself that this has been so in the past, he will prevent some misunderstanding and anticipate future trouble by coming among ns to explain and demonstrate his interpretation of a representative’s duty. Let us hear an account of his stewardship in relation to the interests and affairs of this coast, and especially of Patea County. There is talk of signing a requisition calling on Major Atkinson to address the voters in the County town of Patea. Surely this should be unnecessary. The age of tlinmbsc v ews is past. Let him come of his own free will, or stay away. There is always a day of rackoi ing. ■ *
