AMALGAMATION OF VOLUNTEERS.

Sir, —For several months past the No. 1 and No. 2 companies of Carlyle Volunteers have not been roiling up to drill as they ought. The'atteudance at drill averages from .ten to twenty for each company, and it is the wish of bothcompanies (except perliapi oao or two officer® of No. 2) to amalgamate, so that we may have one good company in Carlyle. The Captian of No. 1 company has resigned, and all the officers :of that company, I believe, are willing to do the same. Some of the officers of No. 2 Company do not care to resign, as they; think that:if they do they might not bo re-elected, and that the officers of No.' 1 might be put in their places. If tlio companies amalgamate the capitation grant, which-would amount to something Hkef-mighfr'^i)'©;-thrown into a AY.o could?buy instruments forj;_d bandf and Miave.; a company would ; do credit to Carlyle! ; do' ! . : y'ou <tbint thaj:Vinftn who' will thus stand- iriy the'w;ay,-i : aqd prevent our having?a good - ‘company* should . hold the do? For want men who jiylllgivediligept attention,. .'and do all they can to : make a company;- what it should be* : My opinion is that .ifc'the coinpaniea amalgamate, there are officers in each company whom we should not fail to re-elect; while there are'others vye might:; do:; without. The.men now; know? who Would isuit them as officers,' and .the presentofficers know- wether they have! done that-which entitles thenvto ‘be’reelected.—l am, &c., - . ... A VOLUNTEER.
