HAWERA.
Cl'liOll OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) February S. The farmers in this part ot the district have been taking ad vantage of the weather lately to get their crops in. I am told the oat crop is a great success, one per son having GU bushels to the acre, and a very few tinder f>o. The wheat is not looking so well, but there are very fctvcrops of it. The parades of infantry and cavalry on Saturday were very poor, but no doubt the harvesting would prevent a good number attending. On Saturday we were treated to a good sou"-easier ; the dust was something intolerable. The great place of resort now is the Constabulary camp on the Plains, a great many people being there on Sunday. The men seem to be very happy there, and work like Britons on the road. The natives are very kind to them. Last week they sent a present to Col. Roberts ot potatoes, geese. &c. it was reported here on Monday that our constable had gone away on Friday, and as he had not returned on Saturday,
he had been lost or was eaten bj ,th£ Maoris; but for the benefit of those who contemplate having a drunk next week, I can inform them that he has turned up as well and as active as ever. He was only staying in the bush for a couple of days for the benefit of bis health.
