ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
[\Vm are at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, hut; in no case do we hold ourselves respond bl,c for the sentiments of our correspondents.J To the Editor of the Patba Mail. Sir, —Is such the case—that an account from Messrs Clhnic and Anderson fur the sum of 11.10 for a now plan of the liawera Hoad District was presented to the Board for payment on Saturday last, signed by order of chairman. If so, 1 would ask where does the chairman get the power to expend the sum of AU) without a resolution of the Hoard to that effect. If lie can expend Hid. I. dare say the oilier nemb.-rs are jnstiJied in expending an unlimited amount also, lam aware of a resolution empowering any two members to expend up to the amount of two pounds, but no more.
Did the Board require a new plan at that expense ? Have limy not at present a large plan with nearly all the lands in their district ? Then, why could they not have got that portion drafted on the same scale, and lot the clerk have added it to the one ticy have in Ids ofiice V If the Board passed the account for payment, it is to ho hoped they will add at the ch.-dnn oi’s expense w!m ordered it. Is Mr Moorcroft or the Board going to pay the expenses incurred by getting the price of old road gazetted to him running through his place. I hear the surveyors have had two accounts passed for payment for some work they have dorc for the Board to the amount of A2d or so. but am not sure of the amount. If the minutes were published in the Mah. wc might got more information on the subject. Hoping lam not troubling you with too much writing Mr Editor, and I am. (.V:c., (JNK WHO HAS lit.)
