ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

K are ;if a!i riin-ps loarlv 10£ivu expression to shp.i C'i wj/inion. >;tu, ;*n n<> cbl'O do we iu.id ourselves responsible for the sentiments of oar correspondents.] To the Editor ot' the Patka Mail. Silt, —•• fmjuirnig Ratepaj’er ’in yesterday’s paper, seems to he m difficulties, and 1 tlnnk ho must have been thorongblv in earnest when he came to the decision that information was wanted, and made his “ hero goes ” seemingly as if he was taking a header into some unknown depth, or going to pierce sumo dense bank of narkness. lie says he often looks through your paper to learn the doings of the llawera Road Board. If so he ought to have seen in the issue before the one he mentions an advertisement calling for tenders to do the valuation for the rate that,, the Board have decided on; and noticing this he would then have known that it way simply nonsense to think a rate was asked for which no valuation had beet! made. At all events, if he did not, lie ought to have felt quite easy about the Secretary trying to collect it. Mr O. . Bale does his duty very well, but 1 have noticed no burning desire to do mure than we require of him. “ Inquiring Ratepayer ” should bear in mind that the doings of the Board can be known at Secretary’s office, but should he think it necessary to appeal through your paper for information, he should not be ashamed to put his name to it, more especially as I believe he has paid all due rates.—l am, &C. MOORE HUNTER, llawera, December 25th, 1873.
