TO STAND THIS SEASON IN THE fjpHE Pure-bred Clydesdale Stallion, KNOOKDON, A Bright Bay, vising three years old, standing IGA hands high, with immense muscular power and splendid action. Knockdon is out. of the celebrated mare Princess. Princess by Emperor, out of the celebrated mare Kate, imported by the late Mr .Tames Straehan. Princess took first prize in Timani in 1874, against eleven broodmares. Emperor gained three first and three second prizes, being beaten only by his sire Napoleon. Knockdon’.S sire was Tired by James N. Fleming, Esq., of Knockdon. out of the renowned mare Rosie, by Prince Christian. Prince Christian was also hied by Mr Fleming ; was by his horse Prince Consort out of his prize mare Nell. Rosie was also tired by Mr Fleming : her sire was Tired by Major Findlay, of Eastern Hill, out of a Highland and Agricultural Society’s prizewinner. Her dam, Old Rosie, gained first prize as a Bwear-old at the Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Dumfries, and as a brood marc the following year at Kelso. Rosie gained many prizes in Scotland, amongst others, first, as a 2-year-old at Ayr, 18G7 ; first, as a 3-year-old at Ayr, 1808 ; second, as a biood mare at Ayr and May hole, 1809 : and first as a br.ood mare at Ayr, in 1871 ; same day winning sweepstakes for best brood marc, open to Scotland, She was beaten at Ayr and Maybole in 1809, by Mr Fleming’s marc Salt, but was placed before same mare in 1871. As a brood mare, Rosie has not been surpassed. Her first: foal, a filly, was four times first as a yearling, viz., at Ayr, Glasgow, Maybole,” and Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Dumfries. In 1871. she was shown (wolve times, and always gained the first, place. These winnings included Glasgow, East. Kilbride, and Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Perth. In 1872 she was again first at, Ayr. Her second foal, also a filly, gained second prize ;it Ayr, and first at Glasgow, and High I and and Agricultural Society’s Show at Perth as a yearling in 1871. In .18/2 she was again first at Ayr and Glasgow. At present she is considered the best of her age in Scotland. Her next foal was Knockdon. He was foaled on the 20lTi May, 1871, and gained the* first prize at Ayr, and second at Glasgow, in 1872, and first at Tim am as a 3-ycai-old in 1873, and first again in 1870 against all comers. Knockdon took first prize in Timaru as a yearling ; first in Wanganui as a 2-yoar-old—these being the only occasions on which he was shown. Terms —Five guineas for Single Mares.
