WAITOTARA.
(from a cokuespondext.) December 16. Tins little township lias nearly doubled itself during the past year. One large new hotel, that would not disgrace a much bigger town, one new store opened by Mr Win. Kells (late of Wanganui), and a considerable number of private dwellings, have been erected. We could now treat ourselves to a Town Board if desired, and go in for borrowing powers. The railway is slowly progressing in this direction. The station muster's house is completed, and tenders for tile station buildings el oso to-day; but the line cannot, be completed under six mouths, even if ail the labor that could be utilised were put on at once. By tbs way, the work has been taken out of the contractor’s hands by their sureties —Messrs E. W. Mills and Go., of Wellington. A large quantity of timber for the bridge over the Waitotara, laid down by the said contractors, was condemned by the Government engineers a few days ago. We have managed to get a cricket club under way here, of which Mr T. W. Fisher was elecled President, Mr W. Parsons Vice President, Mr T. Dawson Captain, and Mr J. K. Hynes Secretary and Treasurer. The members have been practising vigorously for the past few weeks, in expectation of measuring their strenglii with your club on Saturday next. Most of them are beginners, but promise well, and hope to give a good account of themselves in lime, if not in their first match.
