Remember Mr Cowern’s monster timber sale to-day. The Rev L. Hudson, of New Plymouth, will preach in the Wesleyan Church, Hawera, to-morrow, at 11 a.m.; and at Carlyle, at 7 p.m. Owing to the Rev Mr Faircbnigh being in New Plymouth, no service will be held at Waihi, as advertised* We understand that a cricket match had been arranged between Carlyle and Wanganui for Monday next, but owing to the latter team not being able to come here to play, the match has fallen through. It la probable the return match —Married v Single—will be played instead. In the House of Representatives on Monday evening last, Mr Macandrew, after a lengthy speech, moved the following resolution “ That the financial proposals of the Government are, in the opinion _of this House, unsatisfactory.” The motion was seconded by Mr Montgomery, and after it had been spoken to by several members, was put and lost, only twentythree hon gentlemen being present. At the annual meeting of the County Council on Wednesday last, Mr W. Dale was elected Chairman for the ensuing year. We are compelled to hold over report till next isssue. In the House to day, Mr George gave notice to ask if Government were prepared to give a reward for the capture of Hiroki; and why so large a force was maintained on the West Coast.
