ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE

[We arc at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.]

(To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sm, —Although I should be very unwilling to throw cold water on the efforts of the promoters of so laudable an institution as our local Agricultural and pastoral Association, yet I cannot but think some improvements might have been made in the arrangements for the approaching Show. It would have been a great convenience te especially to those who have a small number of exhibits, if a sub-committee or an agent had been appointed in Waverley, but no such consideration was shown. I state this, not so much for the sake of exhibitors as on behalf of the Association itself, as the larger the number of exhibits secured the greater will be the attraction to the general public, and the more certain the success of the institution. I know myself of many creditable looking animals in this district that would have been entered for the Show had there been reasonable convenience for doing so, but people cannot be expected to send a person or go themselves to Carlyle with the entrance fees, ns many people show just to make it a success, and cannot be expected to go to any unnecessary trouble. There is also omissions from the prize list in comparison with former years, for which I am at a loss to know the reason; amongst which I may mention the halfton horse* which is well known to be one of the most useful of horses, in fact it is known as a poor man’s horse, as he is useful for all kinds of farm work } anti

'there is also the coaching mare omitted, ’which is another of the most useful; together with many other little things. My opinion is that the classes should be 'increased and not decreased. Let us, however, hope that the Committee will, on the day of the show, strive to make it so far a success to neutralize any 'previous mistakes made on their part.—l am, &c., ADDLE. Waverlcy, Nov. 22, 1879,
