Mr W. Dale will hold a miscellaneous sale at his mart to-day. A cricket match—Married v Single—will be played on the Carlyle ground to-day, commencing at 1.30. Mr W. H. Skeet, dentist, has arrived at Havvera, and will visit Carlyle about the Ist December.

Owing to the inclement weather on Wednesday last, Mr Cowern’s sale of timber on account of Malcolm and Co., was postponed till Saturday, the 29th. Tho annual general meeting of the Patea County Caledonian Society will be held at Mr D. M. Harris’ office, this evening, at half-past 7 o’clock, to arrange programme for the forthcoming sports, and to elect office-bearers.

The adjourned case of J. Gibson v R. Howell, was brought on at the R.M. Court yesterday, when judgment was given for plaintiff for amount claimed (£3 15s) and costs, posession to be given forthwith. The Patea District Agricultuarl and Pastoral Association’s Show, to be held at Waverley on Wednesday next, promises to bo a success, judging from tho number of entries received under the different heads, of which the following may be taken as correct Horses, 97 ; cattle, 43 ; pigs, 7 ; poultery, 11 ; dogs, 12.

We would call the attention of the Patea County Council to the very bad state of the main road leading to Kakaramea. From the Post Office to tho Racecourse the road is full of dangerous ruts, and perhaps a few loads of gravel would save a broken crown.

Pakenham, Tyler: The installation will take place on Monday, December Ist, at 6 p.m.

A fearful double murder was committed in Wellington on Wednesday last, by a young man named Clarence Miller, the victims being his mother and father, the perpetrator afterwards committing suicide by cutting bis throat. The body of the old gentleman was fearfully injured, as if the young* fellow* bad smashed a gun over him. The stock was lying on the bed and the barrel on the floor. It is conjectured that Mrs Miller was carrying some coal to the fire when she. was attacked, as close to the body was a scuttle full scattered about. Her throat was cut from ear to ear. The young man was supposed to have been insane at the time be committed the deeds, as the family had always lived happily together. The old gentleman was ill in bed when he was murdered.
