HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Wellington, November 14. On the motion of the Premier, it was resolved that the House, on rising, adjour-a
■till 7.30 on Monday. The Premier said the Treasurer hoped then to be able to deliver •Lis Financial Statement. On the third reading of the Qualification of Electors Bill coining on, Mr Pyke moved for a recommittal. Mr Thomson contended that women should have a vote by virtue of their womanhood, if at all—not because they possessed a £*2s freehold six months prior ; to registration. A long discussion ensued, several members strongly supporting the recommittal. Sir Geo. Grey accused the Government of not desiring to make the House reflex of country, but of the money of country, Mr Wakefield-charged Grey with inconsistency in several points in connection. Mr Shritnski attacked the last speaker, saying he was not fit to clean Grey’s boots. Division then taken on adoption of report. Ayes, 30 ; noes, 34. On the question of recommittal being put, .Mr Bowen moved that the words, “ For the purpose of discussing sub-section 1, section “2,” be .added." After discussion, this was agreed to by 37 to 22, and then Mr Ilislop moved another amendment in order to get the question of Maori freehold qualification discussed, but it was negatived by 37 against 24. Wallis followed with an amendment ,-"ro re-discuss the residential qualification, but it was negatived on voices. On recommittal of Bill, Mr Montgomery moved an amendment to make the clause read “ that every person shall be subject •to the provision that he shall not have more than one vote.” Discussion adjourned at 5.30.
