Mr F. R. Jackson’s monthly Hawera stock sale takes place on Friday next. The Rev J. Terry will open the Normanby Presbyterian Church for public worship on Sunday morning next. On Saturday next, the privileges of the Waverloy-Waitotara race meeting will be disposed of at the Commercial Hotel, Waverley, by Mr F. R. Jackson. Mr W. Dale will hold a clearing sale of timber on Saturday next. Mr W. Cawern has received instructions to sell on Saturday next, land, building, furniture, &0., in the bankrupt estate of James Hirst. The Harbor Board met yesterday. Report of proceedings will appear in next issue. Remember Mr Cowern’s Kakaratnea stock sale to-day. Mr W. H, Skeet, dentist, announces that he will be at Hawera about the 17th inst. The Manutahi Hotel changed hands on Monday last, Mr Francis Williamson becoming mine-host of that house. Mr Dale acted as valuator for Mr. Carroll, and Mr Odgers for the new tenant. ' On Monday last, a big powerful man was seen on his way to the Rifle Range with a piece of timber, pointed at one end, whilst at the other a cut had been made of a sufficient size to hold a rifle comfortably. On being asked what he was going to do with it, he said he was on his waj to shoot for the prizes. He did’nt take it any further, though, and a bad job for him, as he nearly shot the marker, and sent about four bullets through the dummy used for marking purposes.
Mr W. M. Thomson will hold a sale of household furnituie at Hawera, on Saturday next, the property of Mr W. A. King, who is about to leave the district.
By an advertisement elsewhere, it will be seen that the renowned Pinafore Opera Company intend paying the Patea District a visit. So much has been said of this Company, that we hail their coming with delight, as it will no doubt afford a treat rarely experienced in this part of the world. To-night and Thursday 'evening, then, we hope to see the Carlyle Town Hall crowded, for wo can guarantee that the opera is of the very 'highest order. The Company perform at Ilawcra on Friday and Satin-" day, and as iheir fame lias perceded them, we have no doubt of the result.

Tregear, claim £l7 14s; judgment for plaintiff, with 15s costs ; G. N. Baggett v S. Pavitt, claim £9; judgment for plaintiff, with 8s costs , S. Taplin v E, Tregear, cliinn L 8 17s 5d ; judgment for plaintiff, with 8s costs.
