TO STAND THIS SEASON IN THE Hawera {District, rjpHE Purc-brcd Clydesdale Stallion, KNOCEDON, A Bright Bay, rising throe years old, standing 16£ hands high, with immense muscular power and splendid action. Knockdon is out of the celebrated mare Princess. Princess by Emperor, out of the celebrated mare Kate, imported by the late Mr James Stracban. Princess took first prize in Tirnaru in 1874, against eleven brood mares. Emperor gained three first and three second prizes, being beaten only by his sire Napoleon. Knockdon’s sire was bred by James N. Fleming, Esq., of Knockdon, out of the renowned mare Rosie, by Prince Christian. Prince Christian was also bred by Mr Fleming ; was by bis horse Prince Consort out of his prize mare Nell. Rosie was also bred by Mr Fleming ; her sire was bred by Major Findlay, of Eastern Hill, out of a Highland and Agricultural Society’s prizewinner. Her dam, Old Rosie, gained first prize as a 3-year-old at the Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Dumfries, and as a brood mare the following year at Kelso. Rosie gained many prizes in Scotland, amongst others, first, as a 2-year-old at Ayr, 1867 ; first, as a 3-year-old at Ayr, 1868 ; second, as a biood mar© at Ayr and Maybole, 1869 : and first as a brood mare at Ayr, in 1871 ; same day winning sweepstakes for best brood mare, open to Scotland. She was beaten at Ayr and Maybole in 1869, by Mr Fleming’s mare Salt, but was placed before same mare in 1871. As a brood mare, Rosie has not been surpassed. Her first foal, a filly, was four times first as a yearling, viz., at Ayr, Glasgow, Maybole, and Highland and Agricultural Society’s Siiow at Dumfries. In 1871, she was shown twelve times, and always gained the first place. These winnings included Glasgow, East Kilbride, and Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Perth. In 1872 she was again first at Ayr. Her second foal, also a filly, gained second prize at Ayr, and first at Glasgow, and Highland and Agricultural Society’s Show at Perth as a yearling in 1871. In 1872 she was again first at Ayr and Glasgow. At present she is considered the best of her age in Scotland. Her next foal was Knockdon. He was foaled on the 261b May, 1871, and gained the first prize at Ayr, and second at Glasgow, in 1872, and first at Tirnaru as a 3-yeai-old in 1873, and first again in 1875 against all comers. Knockdon took first prize in Tirnaru as a yearling ; first in Wanganui as a 2-ycar-old—these being the only occasions on which he was shown. Terms—Five guineas for Single Mares. A reduction for two or more. Groomago fee, ss. Paddocking free for four weeks. Every care taken, but no responsibity. Fees payable on or before Ist January, 1880. Mares limited. Apply to A. & R.
