Tbe first batch of this season’s clip of wool was brought into Carlyle yesterday, and taken to wharf for shipment.

Mr Dale will hold a sale of merchandise and sundries at his mart to-day ; also, iron tanks and portable boilers and frames. A concert, in aid of tbo Catholic Church, will be held in the Town Hall, Hawera, en Tuesday evening next. The Rev J. Treadwell, of Wanganui, will open the new Carlyle Presbyterian Church to-morrow. On Wednesday a soiree will be held in the Church, after which public addresses will be given by the Revs Treadwell, Allsworth, Fairclough, Tony, and others. We are compelled to hold over our report on the entertainments in aid of the Carlyle Fire Brigade. At a meeting of the Committee of the Hawera Institute, bold on Wednesday evening, the following resolution was carried unanimously :—That the Committee of the Institute tender, through the Press, a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies who so ably assisted in getting up and successfully carrying out the Bazaar in aid of the Institute ; also, to the Hawera Brass Band.

Hawera, Normanby, Manutahi, Waverley, and Waitotara settlers must find it very inconvenient to come to Carlyle to pay money that might well be paid in their own townships, and for this reason we would suggest, if nothing serines stands in tbe way, that all the Post Offices within the County be authorised to receive the Tax, and thus do away with the necessity of settlers travelling long distances to pay a few pounds.
