ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
CORRECTION. {To the HSditor of the Patea Mail.) Sir, —Will you kindly correct your report of the proceedings of the County Council at its last meeting, wherein I am made to propose and Mr Hunter to second, that a rate of sixpence in the pound be struck at the next meeting of the Council. I proposed, and Mr Hunter seconded, rt That the rate be iourpence in the pound,” Councillor Brewer voting with us for the fourpenny rate. Councillor Wincbcomb proposed, and Councillor Partridge seconded, as an amendment, “ That the rate be sixpence in the pound,” the whole of the Council voting for the amendment with the exception of Messrs Brower, Hunter, and Gane. . As it is the general wish of the settlers, I have given notice that at the next meeting of the Council, I intend to propose, “That the sixpenny resolution be rescinded, and a rate of threepence be struck in lieu thereof, as they consider it is the duty of the Government to maintain the Count}' Road out of. moneys derived i'rdm the Laud Tax.”—l am, &c, F. J. GANE.
