It being stated in the ftohsa last night that the Government intercepted a message from His Excellency, asking for supplies, the Opposition intend, this afternoon going into the matter fully.lo ascertain whether any Government has the power to intercept messages from the Governor. Some extraordinary circumstances are related in connection with the Vecent airest ‘of Edward James, wabted at Titnaru on a charge of forgery. It is stated that about ten or twelve years ago, one Ed\vard James bought a hundred acres of land neaf.Timani, with a valuable town allotment. He afterwards left for the West Coast, where he was drowned in one of the rivers. After a lapse of time, a pets on living near the land fenced it in, taking possession. Other persons finding the real owner dead, discovered another Edward James, and asked him to sell. He said he had no land ; but they said he had, and, as alleged-, PffeVed him £4OO for his signature to a deed conveying the property, which is Said to be now worth hj very large sum of money. James asserts that while the transaction \yas pending, he was well piled with liquor, and while in this state was taken to a solicitor’s where the, deed was executed, and a cheque for £SOO paid. James declares that all the money be received was about £ls. The holders of the deed -afterwards tried to eject the present occupiers, but the latter Obtaining legal advice, the \vhole thing came out, and Janies weiit to Wanganui, and soon after to Forty Mile Bush, and p'olice were unable to find him. It is said that the persons concerned in this transaction are ail occupying good positions.
