Native Affairs, as such a combination would be likely to cause disagreeable complications.” The reason why the swearing-in of tho new Ministry was deferred until after the sitting of the House, on Wednesday, was because no outgoing Alinisters represented that it was necessary to pass an Imprest Supply Bill through all its stages in both Houses; and the representative of the new Ministry, in the Council, not having arrived, it became necessary for the measure to be taken through by the retiring Minister in that branch of the Legislature.

It is understood that Wakefield was offered a seat in the Ministry, but declined. A Greyite caucus wan held this evening, forty being present ; forty-five were represented. Grey, who was in the chair, 'stated that if Macandrew formed a Ministry, he (Grey) would not be one. It was agreed that Macandrew should give notice «f No Confidence motion immediately the House meets to-day, and resist any attempt to rig Order Paper. Macandrew will invite the other side to come to a division at once. To do that, he will move the suspension of the Standing Orders, to enable the motion to be disposed of forthwith. His party would undertake to abide by the decision of the House. If defeated, they would loyally assist to push through the business. Mr Hall made a brief statement of the intentions of the Ministry, and promised to give a full one on the House meeting on Tuesday. They found considerable 'difficulty in getting a true state of native affairs, but be thought the Native Minister aad Treasurer would be able on Tuesday

night to furnish all the information regarding these departments. Major Atkinson gave notice to introduce a Bill to amend the Public Revenues Act, stating that the finances of: the colony were in an unsatisfactory condition, requiring the serious consideration of the House, In reply to a question, Mr Kolleston said they intended to send a better Magistrate to Gisborne. Mr Hall said Mr Whitaker would arrive to-morrow. Mr Hall moved the second reading of the Triennial Parliaments Bill!, whereupon debate ensued, the Opposition wishing the dehate adjourned, while the Government were desirous to go on with the second reading. Discussion interrupted at 6.30 p.m.
