(Per Press Agency.) WELLINGTON. September 26. It is stated on authority that the Bank of New Zealand is dissatisfied with the conditions on which it holds the Government banking account, and has given the necessary notice to terminate its contract.- The terras on which Banks in other colonies hold various public accounts, are of a much more advantageous character than those given bythis colony to its Banker. An Opposition meeting was held this morning, and was well attended. The mode of moving the want of confidence’ motion was folly discussed. It was
finally resolved that the Hon J. Hall move an amendment on the Address in Reply to the Governor’s speech, immediately after being moved and seconded. The ammendmcnt is to affirm the readiness of the House to adopt the Liberal measures desired by the country, Nvhilst intimating to Governor that they have no confidence in the Government as it is at present constituted. Messrs McOaughan and J. B. Whyte, as to whose views doubts had been expressed, attended meeting, and gave in their adherence to the line of action resolved upon. The Opposition are prepared to go on with the debate on address at once, and go to division as early as possible, in order to save the time of the couhtry. A caucus of Government supporters was held to-day, thirty-four being present, Twelve more are considered accounted for. It was unanimously resolved that the whole of the party supGovernment in the event of a of Confidence motion being tabled. The meeting lasted barely half-an-hour. It is reported on reliable authority that the Hon Mr Richardson has been advised that the election of Sir G. G'-ey for Christchurch is illegal, and.Mr Richardson will in duo course against Grey’s election. Officers of Telegraph Department have formed a new torpedo corps in connection with the office. Government have occepted the services of the corps, and promised them a couple of steam launches to practice in. Mr Whitaker, who is going to Christchurch to get married, paired against Government. Dr Wallis and Mr Hurst, members for City West, have been summoned to Auckland to appear as witnesses in a case of alleged bribery and corruption in connection with their election. Address in Reply will be moved on Tuesday next, when Mir Hall moves the want of confidence amendment. Government are taking steps to investigate representations regarding discovery of auriferous reefs in Wairarapa District. They expect in a week or two to .be able to set all doubts at rest, and publish result. Prospectors are only waiting to be placed in possession of their hundred acres lease promised them, when they will disclose all necessary information regarding discovery. The locality is very accessible, the reefs discovered running for miles, with immense masses of stone. Water power plentiful. AUCKLAND. September 26. Discovery of gold bearing stone at Cambridge, Waikato, is reported. Natives report valuable find of petroleum spring at Te Paeroa, Lake Country.
