To my old friends and supporters who have stood by me so loyally and generously, I tender my warmest thanks, and beg to assure them and all those who voted for me, that no effort shall be wanting on my part to retain a confidence I so highly prize. I trust now that the election is over, and your choice made, that all party heat may be forgiven and forgotten, and I feel confident that I shall receive a generous support from all in carrying out your wishes, both in Colonial and Local matters, so long as I remain your representative in Parliament.
