TERRIBLE FIRE AT DUNEDINOn Monday last we received a telegram from the Press Agency, to the effect that a tremendous fire was raging at Dunedin, and that eight persons had been burnt to death. We give below further particulars regarding the disaster : Dunedin, Sept. 8. A dreadful fire broke out at 2.30 this morning, at Water’s Cafe, Ross’ Buildings, in the Octagon. Next to the Cafe was the shop of Mrs Wilson, wife of the Editor of the Witness. The block numbered some four shops and buildings, all thickly peopled, and as the whole of the lower part was in flames before the fire was discovered, escape was impossible for the majority of the inmates.
