PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Kukaramea, on Monday last. Present —Messrs Marchant (in th* chair), Taylor, Napier, Paterson, and Campbell. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed.

Letter from Patea County Council, informing the Board that the proposed expenditure for theyear 1879-80 was approved of, subject to the Board expending £25 out of contingencies on the Lower Manulahi Road, commencing at section 376, and er]<liii£C nt section 384 ; letter from Air Frank Road, stating that should the Board bum the bush on Wilford Road before the proper burning season, he would hold it responsible for any damage to his property ; from the same person, requesting the Board to fall another 35 chains of bush on Wilford Road, or to allow him to do so on the same terms as successful tenderer for the 100 chains contract. The following tenders were received ; Falling bush, and clearing cart track on Wilford Rood (about 100 chains), W. R. James, 15s 6d per chain ; falling bush, and clearing cart track on Clifford Road (about 70 chains), Shaw & Butler, 15s 9d per chain. Proposed by Mr Campbell, seconded by Mr Napier, and lost, “ That the question of letting contracts on Wilford and Clifford Roads stand over till next meeting ; in the meantime, the Waste Lands Board be requested to send reply to letter dated 23rd July, 1879.” Proposed by Mr Marchant, seconded by Mr Paterson, and carried, “That the tenders of Messrs Shaw & Butler, and W. R. James be accepcd, subject to the Secretary receiving notice within seven days from date, from the Waste Lands Board, that the proposed expenditure is approved of.” Resolved, That Mr Road’s letter stand over till next meeting. Proposed by Mr Napier, seconded by Mr Paterson, and carried, “ That Messrs Marchant and Campbell be appointed a committee to meet the Engineer, and lay off works on Taumaha and Hursthouse Roads.” Proposed by Mr Paterson, seconded byMr Campbell, and carried, “That Messrs Taylor, Mcßae, Napier, and Marchant, be appointed a committee to meet the Engineer, and lay off works on Garsed Road.” Proposed by Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr Napier, and carried, “ That Messrs Taylor and Marchant be appointed a committee to have the necessary repairs done on Upper Bail Road, near Woodville.” Proposed by Mr Marchant, seconded by Mr Campbell, and carried, “ That Messrs Napier, Mcßae, and Paterson bo appointed a committee to lay off works, and call for tenders for same, on Upper Kakararnea Road.” The meeting then adjourned.
