ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
£We are at all times ready to give expression to every shade of opinion, but in no case do ■we hold ourselves responsible for the sentiments of our correspondents.] SMALL FARMS. (To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sik,—lf all the country was cutup into farms of less than 100 acres, and occupied by working men, as Mr Ballance..would have? it, these settlers, would starve. I speak from many years experience as a “cockatoo” when I say so. If Sir -W. Fox’s idea of placing farms of from 500 to 000 acres amongst the smaller ones was carried out, the latter .would do well, as the large farms would afford employment for their surplus time; hut otherwise all would be poor together, and in had times would be ruined. I wonder how Mr Ballance would like to be one of them. It strikes me he knows a trick worth two of it—£l,2oo a year is better, or £250 for a couple of mouths 1 work.—l am, &c. r SMALL FARMER.
