(Per Press Agency) GRAHAMSTOWN. September 2. Sir Geo. Grey and Mr J. Sheehan were nominated to-day for the Thames, and there being no third candidate, they were declared duij’ elected without opposition. It is understood that if Sir George is elected' for Christchurch, he will vacate the Thames seat. Mr Sheehan has not yet decided if he will contest Clive against Mr Ormond, although nominated. A pigeon message for Native Minister from Pipo District, states that a party of friendly natives from that district, some of whom were supposed to have joined the belligerents at Ohinemuri, have been passed this morning on their way to the latter place to arrest the culprits. Mr Sheehan goes up again by special steamer soon after nomination proceedings terminate, and if necessary will take a force of volunteers up from here within 24 boms. He stated this at the nomination. CHARLESTON. September 2. Charles Craddock, pilot, was drowned yesterday by the swamping of a boat, which was towing in the schooner Shepherdess. Baillie, mate of schooner, who was in the boat with him, was Craddock leaves a wife and three children. ASHBURTON. September 2. Distress among the unemployed here has been much aggravated during the past week by the stoppage of several works, and reductions on railway. Borough Council funds have run out, and a score of day laboreis leave to-da}'. Some families are known to be almost starving. Coleridge nomination.—Show of hands r Geo. Hart, 27 ; E. G. Wright, 120. Poll demanded. AUCKLAND. September 3. A telegram to Inspector Thompson from Bay of Islands, reports a desperate^affray over land survey amongst the natives at Kawa Kawa, resulting in two being shot. Another telegram from Ohaewai says eight were wounded and one killed. Three pahs are being erected on the SPOt INVERCARGILL. September 2. Another declaration .of poll at noon. Returning Officer said he had gone over the pamers again carefully, and would" declare the numbers as follows : —Bain 1 305, Feld wick 295.
