OIRGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
{To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) g IB , —Would yon allow me space in your valuable paper , to ask what the Hawera Road Board intends doing with the rates they have not appropriated in their published proposed expenditure. I find on examining the rate-book of the Board, that the rates for the current year amount to £205 \ subsidy on last
years rates amounts to ££44; there are £SO arrears of rates, for which the clerk has been directed to sue; and there is a sum of £57 due the rates by the Hon. the Native Minister (on account of some work he authorized the Hoard to get done on some of the many Maori roads he requires.) These sums make a total of £556 at the disposal of the Hawera Bond Board for road purposes. Out of this sum they propose to expend £BSO, What do they intend doing with the balance? Would some kind-hearted County Councillor find this out ? The member for the “Ingahape Rond” might busy himself about it, * and maybe the Council would give him some oi it to waste on his district—the Ingahape and Mills roads.—l am, &c., KATIPO. o A QUESTION FOR RETURNING OFFICERS. (To the Editor of the Patea Mail.) Sin, — On the Wanganui Electoral 8011, several names are wrongly spelt —for instance, “ Overend ” is spelt “ Oversena.” Would the Returning Officer be empowered to let those parties use their votes, as virtually they are not on the roll, —I am, &c. ENQUIRER.
