We understand that a rifle match is being arranged between Nos. 1 and 2 Companies Patea Rifles, which is to come off on Saturday week.

The entertainment given at Hawera on Friday evening last, in aid of the Hawera Institute, was largely attended, and wo understand that the splendid sum of £2l was realised. This speaks well for the district, for it shows clearly that the settlers are alive to the necessity of having such a worthy institution in their midst.
