MR FEEMAN R. JACKSON’S FORTNIGHTLY STOCK REPORT. Wanganui, July 30. The yards at Wavorley and St. Hill Street ■were* well tilled with stock for the sales, and bidding was brisker than it has been for some time past, every lot finding purchasers at late values. There is no advance in prices lo repurl, except perhaps in sheep. This description of stock finds ready purchasers, though rates for stores still rule low compared with those of the corresponding sales last year. Beef is getting scarce, hut no improvement in prices ; this is attributable to the low prices ruling in Auckland and elsewhere, which leaves no margin, hardly covering profit and expenses. in many cases making an actual loss to the shippers. The St. Kilda landed a trial cargo in Dunedin on Saturday, the sale of which is anxiously looked for. Should the prices be satisfactory, I trust another market will be found for our surplus beef. At the yards to-day, a few pens of sheep were of good quality, the rest very inferior; tlnee pens went to the graziers. Store cattle were of the ordinary description, and were all sold at the quotations below. The sheep were also of indifferent sorts, with the exception of four pens of wethers, which were really good, useful sheep. Cattle —At Waverley, 232 head were yarded. Fat bullocks, £8 15s ; cows and calves, £5 7s 6d ; heifers, £4 ; 18 months old, £3 7s 3d ; yearlings, £2 7s fid ; 2 pens old steers, £5 ss. At the St. Hill Street Yards, 139 came forward.
