(Per Press Agency) WELLINGTON. July 15. The House was opened to-day by Governor. Mr Thomson has accepted office in Ministry. Portfolio not settled. Opposition party number 44, and say they expect an accession in a tew days. Mr Barton will resign at the end of session, and go to reside permanently in the United States. Government supporters admit that parties are very equally divided. Sir W. Fox was unanimously elected loader of Opposition to-day. Sir W. Fox gave notice that Mr Seymour be appointed Chairman of Committees. The Opposition will not oppose a loan in the present financial state of the country. When Mr Whitaker was proposed as leader of Opposition, he declined on plea of private business, but strongly recommended that Sir W. Fox be chosen, whom he knew as an honest politician for many years. Mr Whitaker is supposed to bo able to influence the eight Aucklnnd members. It is now definitely settled that Mr Seymour be allowed a walk-over for Chairmanship of Committee. Mr Goldie positively declines second address reply. The House adjourned to usual hour tomorrow.
