WAITOTARA.

(From a Correspondent.) July 3. Last Monday evening the members or the School Committee, and a large number of Waitotara residents, met in the school-room hero for the purpose of presenting Mrs Jordan with an address and purse of sovereigns, on her leaving the district.

Mr J Stent (Chairman of Committee) said, “ Wo have met here this evening to hid you farewell, Mrs Jordan, and it is with feelings of regret that we do so.

We trust you will enjoy health and prosperity in your now abode.” He then read the following address: “ Mrs Jordan, “ Madam, —We have been requested by the members of the Waitotara School Committee, and a number of the residents of this district, to undertake what is to ns a most pleasant task, viz., requesting your acceptance of the accompanying purse in token of our appreciation 'of your services while resident amongst ns during the past three years, as mistress of the Waitotara School ; and trust that in accepting it yon will always look back with pleasure to the esteem in which yon are held by the residents of this district. We may say that during yonr residence hero, the children attending school have learned to love and respect you, and wc believe they wih ever hereafter entertain kindly feelings towards you.”—Signed 4>y Mr James Stent on behalf of the Committee, and Mr Thos. Mrs Jordan, in accepting the unexpected present, said she would always look back with feelings of pleasure to her stay among the people of Waitotara. After the .presentation, the room was cleared for dancing, which was indulged in with spirit till the small hours next morning.

Mrs Jordan goes to an appointment at the Upper Hutt, under the Wellington Board of Education. She will be very much missed here, and carries with her to her new sphere of usefulness, the best wishes of the whole community.
