The Wanganui Herald says :—We have received a lengthy communication from Mr Quin, of Normanby, relative to the recent assault case at Hawera. In the private note accompanying the press letter, Mr Quin asks us not to condense it, as such condensation might alter the sense' intended to be convoyed. As “ boiling down” will not be acceptable, "wo are reluctantly compelled to hold the let'er over altogether. Mr Quin in the letter in question gives a< circumstantial account of the proceedings connected with the purchase of the land, and Father Ryan’s action. As we have already published a very full account of the R.M. Court case, a recapitulation of the evidence given therein is unnecessary. Mr Quin, after emphatically denying the slanders he alleges were uttered by his accuser, concludes by stating—“ I respectfully request that the Catholic public will not blame me for this great scandal, as it was proved that I bad nothing to do with the commencing of
