HAWERA.

(from our own correspondent.) June 27. Mr Rogers, Foreman of Works for County Council brought up a yarn that tho Maoris had commenced ploughing at Mokoia, and a man was sent to enquire into the truth of the statement. In the meantime Rogers had made several different statements, which resulted in people not believing him. The man has come backj and says that no Maoris hare been seen there. As there was great excitement •at the time, the people are indignant at the result. No doubt Mr Rogers has not heard the last of it yet.
