KAKARAMEA.

A public meeting was held at the Town Hall, on Wednesday evening, to discuss the advisability of forming a local defence force, and other matters connected with the present native difficulty. Mr James Ball was voted to the chair, and after stating why he had convened the meeting, called upon those present to express their opinion with regard to the question. After several gentlemen had Spoken, a resolution to the effect that the settlers form themselves into a local defence force, was carried unanimously. A Committee was also appointed to interview Major Noake as to the most advisable kind of defence, and the best localities. At the close of the meeting, fifty-four enrolled as volunteers, and no doubt many more will come forward.
