Owing to the native difficulty, Mr Sheet, dentist, has been compelled to return to New Plymouth ; but should matters become more settled, he will pay the district another visit shortly,

At a large meeting of the Defence Corps on Monday evening, the following officers were unanimously elected C. A. Wray, Captain; E. Tregear, Lieutenant; W. Oowern, Second' Lieutenant. We would suggest, as arms are likely to be issued to-day, that the Town Hall bo secured for drill purposes.

We would remind our ! readers that the entertainment in aid of ihe Patea Hospital comes of to-morrow evening, in the Town Hall. A very good programmes.has been drawn up, and we sliould imagine, from what we have heard, it will be a aucces. The entertainment will be under the patronage of the officers of the Defence Force. A public meeting will be held in the Kakaramea Town Hall, this evening, to discuss native affairs.

Mr W. Cowerh will hold his usual Kakaramea monthly stock sale to-day.
