At the debating Society’s Meeting on Thursday evening (Mr Homer in the chair), Mr Sherwood’s motion “ That England was fully justified in entering on the Zulu war ; and that Sir Bartle Frere’s I action in the matter of the ultimatum was also justifiable,” was carried by 17 to 3. Mr Tregear led the opposition, and was supported by Messrs Cowern and Hirst. Mr Sherwood was supported by Messrs Tennent, Williams, Black, and Bush. Mr Skeet, dentist, will arrive in Carlyle on Wednesday next. The sections adjoining the Court House, lately applied for by the County Council, have been vested in that body, and duly gazetted. Mr Cowern will hold his monthly Kakaramea stock sale on Wednesday next. A public meeting about native affairs has been convened for this evening, in the Council Chambers. Government should be urged at once to send a force of men to this district as well as New Plymouth, otherwise something serious might happen. It is no use making one end of the district secure and not the other.
