fßeuter’s Telegrams.] LONDON. May 28. Epsom Summer meeting—Derby : Sir Berry, 1 ; Palmbearer, 2 ; Visconti, 3. May 29. Ordeis have been given for 1130 marines to embark for the Cape. A naval engagement has taken place off Iquique, between two wooden Chilian war vessels and the Peruvian ironclad Independencia. All three were sunk. Prince Lobanolf will be appointed Russian Ambassador at the Court of St. James. The wool sales have been adjourned for the Whitsuntide holidays. ADELAIDE. May 30. The Governor’s speech stated that the proposed reforms in the Legislative Council would be postponed, pending a settlement of the present difficulty in Victoria. It announced the inauguration of extensive public works, considering that the colony was well able to bear the increased national debt. It was intended to introduce a measure to compel the propertied class to contribute more largely to the burden of the colony, thus enabling the Government to re-adjust the taxation. A Customs Bill will be introduced to compel the Chinese in the Northern Territory to contribute to the revenue.
