(From our own Correspondent.) R.M. COURT—Wednesday, May 21. (Before 0. A. Wray, Esq., R.M., and J, W. Kenah, Esq., J.P.) Bracby v Twigg, an action for the recovery of a steer claimed by Mrs Bracey. Several witnesses' were examined, and judgment was given for plaintiff for £6 ss, costs of Court £l, one witness 10s, solicitor’s tee £1 ss. George Norgate, for using obscene and abusive language to his wife, was fined 40s, or 7 days’ imprisonment. Constable Burrow v John Cheync, for cruelty to a horse' by’ hitting it on the head with a "carbine at the late Tournament.—The Constable, on examina’tibh/'said I saw defendant’s horse refuse; a jump. I saw defendant strike him with the stock of his carbine on the neck or head. I afterwards examined the horse, but could find no marks.' By the defendant: 1 cannot say that the carbine was not sprung. I did not consider that you were intentionally cruel.. I think it was more accident than anything. J. B. Taylor, sworn, said: I saw Cheyne’s horse refuse the jump. Cheyne struck him lightly on the neck; it could scarcely be called a blow. There was no cruelty. —J. B. Walkinton, sworn, said: I was at the Tournament. I took particular notice of Cheyne’s squad, as it was a new one. His horse swerved, struck the hurdle, and fell. In falling, the carbine struck the neck of the horse; In coming up again, the horse again" swerved, and, Cheyne struck him lightly with the carbine on the neck. The carbine broke. There was no cruelty in the matter. The horse was not marked, vl beliieve that the carbine had been sprung before.—Case dismissed. A few. fighting men were dismissed with cautions, and the Court adjourned, A meeting of. the School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs McDonald, Thurston, Milne, Mathieson, Bridge, and Mason. It was resolved to vote for Mr Donald Coutts for the Education. Board.

The resolution re the removal of the master, 7 adjourned from the 19 th March, was brought forward and lost on division. Ayes —Bridge, Milne. Noes McDonald, Mathieson, Mason. Proposed by Mr McDonald, seconded by Mr Thurston, and lost, “ in the opinion of this meeting, the resolution brought forward on the 19th March, asking for the removal of the master, was uncalled for; and further, that this Committee desires to express its confidence in the ability and qualifications generally of the master.” Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Milne, and carried, “ That this Committee desires to record its appreciation of the good feeling displayed by the Wanganui School Committee, in deciding to support a candidate from the Patea County in the present election for a member.”
