PATEA WEST ROAD BOARD.

Tnjs usual monthly meeting of the above ..Board was held at Kakaramea, on Monday last. Present —Messrs G. A* Marcbant, J. Paterson (Kaknmmca), W. Napier, and J. Paterson (Carlyle). In the absence of the Chaiiman, Mr Marcbant was appointed Chairman. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence read —Letter from Treasury, that the sum of £143 3s lid had been placed to the credit of Board’s account in Bank of New Zealand, Carlyle ; letter from Mi Dale, Returning Officer, notifying the election of Mr E. J. Morgan as auditor, vice Mr E. R. Morgan, refigned. Mr Hudson, one of the Kakaramea Saw Mill owners, waited upon the Board re the improvement of Jull Road, which leads to the mill.

Proposed by Mr J. Paterson (Kakaramea). seconded by’Mr J. Paterson (Carlyle), and carried, “ That Messrs Hudson, Guy, & Co. be allowed the sum of £lO to improve the Joll Road, on condition lliat they expend an equal sum, work to be d me to the satisfaction of the Board, and that they wait for the money till next year’s rates are available*”

Proposed by Mr J. Paterson (Carlyle), seconded by Mr Napier, and carried, “That Mr Marcbant bo paid £5, amount duo for contract No. 2, Ball Road.” Resolved, “That a comimttee consisting of Messrs W. Napier, J. Paterson (Carlyle), G. A. Marcbant, and J. Paterson (Kakaramea) he appointed to superintend the expenditure of money on Joll Road. Resolved. “ That Mr W. Dalziel be requested to remove the slip bars from off the Ball Road.”

Proposed by Mr J. Paterson (Kakaramea), seconded by Mr W. Napier, “ Tliat notice be given that a rate of 4d in the £ will be struck on the 13th May next, on all rateable properly within the district, and that the rate shall be due and payable at the office of the Board on Ist July, 1879, for the period commencing 13th May, and ending 31st March, 18S0.” Carried. Accounts passed for payment —W. Dale (valuation), 1120; Patea Mail, ill Is; Returning Officer, £1 14s 6d. Proposed by Mr Merchant, seconded by Mr J. Paterson (Kakaramea), and carried, “ That Mr T, Foreman be informed that if his contract on Mannlahi Road bo not completed within seven days from date, the time penalty of 10s per day will be enforced, and that Messrs Napier and Merchant be a committee to take the work over.” The meeting then adjourned.
