WAVERLEY.

The School Committee met at the schoolhouse on Wedhcsdaj’ evening. Present— Messrs Mason (chairman), Bridge, Milne, Mathieson, Thurston, McDonald, and Dickie. """ •
Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr McDonald, and carried, “ That this Committee vote for the Hori Mr Fox, Mr K. Korner, and Mr H. Sanson.” Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Thurston, and carried, “That the Chairman be requested to convey to Mrs Hansard the thanks of the Committee, for her kindness in taking charge of the junior school in the absence of Miss Hall.”
Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded bp Mr Milne, and carried, “ That in the opinion of this Committee, the present system of cumulative voting at the elections of School Committees, should be superseded by one allowing householders to have not more than one vote for any one candidate, as at the elections of members for the House of Representatives.” Proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Mathieson, and carried, “That in the opinion of'this'Committee, the mode of election of members of the Board, provided in the Act of 1877, is calculated to lead to an unfair representation, unless a combination was made such as that at the election of the first Board ; and that if the Act was so amended as to provide for the district being divided into electoral districts, such as hereafter named, a more equitable representation would be secured, viz: County of Patea to return two j County of Wanganui, two ; Rangitikei, two ; Manawatu, two ; Borough of Wanganui, one member.
Resolved, that copies of resolutions three, and four bo forwarded to the Education' Board.
Proposed by Mr Bridge, “ That the Education Board be requested to remove the head teacher of the Waverley School, and replace him with one impre fitted for so large a school, this Committee not feeling satisfied with the progress made by the children under his charge.”—This motion was seconded, after some hesitation, by Mr Milne,, who however explained that he only pro forma, to allow of,.the question ■'being discussed. . On the Chairman putting it, it was lost, ■ , .
Proposed by Mr Thurston, seconded byMr McDonald, and carried on division, “ That the Committee are quiet satisfied with the present master. Ayes—Thurston, McDonald, Dickie,' Mason. .NoesT—Bridge Milne, Mathieson. Amendment proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Milne, ' and carried,. “That the .debate’ be adjourned, until the Committee receive the Inspector’s, report.” '
