Clements, Hirst, Secomb, and ; Dasent. Mr Rolleston, M.H.R. ;for Avon, addressed his constituents last night, in a speech of two hours duration. Ho condemned Sir G. Grey and his policy in no mensured terms, asserting that the Premier' had failed to fulfil any of the promises made while “ stumping” the country, but merely made the people “ a stalking horse,” assuming a patronizing air alike offensive and contemptible, while his policy was dangerous and mischievous, and simply meant rnoie cliinbing on the shoulders of those “ simple villagers,” asSir George Grey called them. But he (Mr Rolleston) did not believe that the people were imposed on by such rubbish. A vote of confidence was unanimously accorded to Mr Rolleston at the conclusion of his address. At the City Council meeting last night the Mayor announced that the Government ' had given the site of the old post office a site for a Town Hall. About £2OO has been collected in aid of Kaitangata Relief fund. The will of the late W. B. Rhodes has been discovered to be very defective in man} r particulars, and is likely to give rise to very peculiar legal coinplications.GREYTOWN. March 4. Another most disastrous fire broke out at Masterton about 2 o’clock this morning, destroying a large block of valuable buildings, including the newly-erected Bank of Australasia, Williams and Cameron, (saddlers), Wilton (seedsman), a boaroingrhouse, and other business places. The following arelnsurances on buildings ; and goods destroyed :—South British,. £100; Victoria, £100; New Zealand,£250; North British and Mercantile,£2,250; Standard, £1,200; Northern, £900; Notional, £2,350; Sun,. £SOO. It is reported that a good deal of stock has been saved. GISBORNE. March 4; There has been a destructive fire here. Five shops were gutted, which were partially insured.
