The following very unique production (says the Manawatu Times) was received by the Chairman of the Palmerston School Committee. We give it verbatem et literatim as a specimen of orthography, but being unable to coiivej' in print the graceful penmanship in which the apistol” was forwarded, it is shorn of half its charms—- “ Wonganui, Jan. 27, 1879.—Sir, —I take the liberty have been instructed by my friends that you where giving out .the prizes of the palmerston scollars. As I were one of them. As I were under Mr Whaits before he died. I shud not have sent for it only I were nearly three years in the soool. I passed in the first book, and gained the first priz, and never received it. pleas Mr Chairman, Sir, mother says she will pay all expenses post or rail, if you will send it please, I remain your palmerston scollar. ; —, Wonganui/’ Our readers will agree with us that it is most reprehensible on the part of the Committee to keep a prize from such a scollar.”
