HAWERA.

(from OUU OWS COKP.FSrONDENT.V February 17, Cricket has been all the go during the past week. Oil Tluifsdry last a match, was played between the Civilians and the A. 0. Force, which was won by the Civilians by H3 runs in the first innings, the scores being—Civilians, 108 ; A. C. Force,-75. On Saturday last the Ilawera team played a match'.against the Clifton club* being the Tikorangi and White Cliffs combined, which was the strongest eleven yet brought here, five of them being part of the team sent to Auckland, and it was confidently expected that the Hawcras would at last receive-a good beating. Their lucky star bad, however, not yet dcseitcd them, and the match resulted in their obtaining a most decisive victory, total!}' eclipsing all" their late brilliant achievements. This has been their most successful season, they nut having sustained so far a single defeat, A great deal of their success may bo attributed to the energy and perseverance of their Captain, who has been indefatigable in his exertions to bring out bis team in their best form ; and be may fee! justly proud of the result of his labors. For the Clifton Club, Major Tuko made the top score of 19, and for the Hawcra ClubJ. Cunningham scored 18. The fielding on both sides was excellent, scarcely a chance being missed. The ground was hr rather bad order, the result of the late dry weather, the balls rising very much and causing a few slight accidents. Appended below arc the scores of ibis match.

This afternoon another match is beingplayed, Civilians v A, C., including plaj'ers from the Clifton Club. The Civilians obtained in their first innings 9-1, and the A. C.-’s 58.

It is thought probable that we shall shortly bo able to raise an eleven composed entirely of Commission Agents, as gentlemen in that lino are becoming very plentiful here, and from their having plenty of time for practice, no doubt should become warm opponents. For the information of residents, the minutes of both Road Board and Town Board meetings will in future be published.
