It is with feelings of the deepest regret wo have to record tho somewhat sudden death of Mr C, W. Hall, lately employed on this journal, who breathed his last in Wanganui,on Sunday, 9th inst., at 630 p.m. Although the deceased gentleman showed signs of breaking up previous to his leaving Carlyle, no one expected to hear*' of such a sudden termination. All who knew Mr Hall could not but speak of his kind-heartedness—in fact, ho was always ready to do a kind action. It was Mr Hall’s intention on leaving here to proceed to Tasmania, where we believe he has a mother and several other near relatives still living. He left for Wanganui on Thursday morning last, and was taken seriously ill immediately after his arrival. His loss will be keenly felt by his family, and a largo number of friends, Mr Hall’s complaint was disease of the heart. The following letter, dated 7th February, was received by us on Monday, from a resident in Wellington : —“Seeing a paragraph in the Evening Post of Wednesday last, staling that 12s per day was paid for labourers who understood pick and shovel work, you would kindly oblige me with the contractors’ names, or inform them that there arc a few good men here who would come up if the above statement is correct, myaol h" included. Or if yon will write and let me know, I will come myself, and probably bring others.” The following gentlemen have been eleted members of tho New Plymouth Harbor Board A, Stamlish, W. Courtney, W. Bewley, L. P. Banks. B. Wells, H. A. Atkinson.
