HAWERA.

(FROII OUU OWN COipESTOSDENT.V February 10. At the R.M. Court to-day, only one* case was heard, viz., Thomas Robson v George Plellier, claim £3 7s Gd for work done. - A set-off account was put in by defendant. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £2 14a 6d, with costs. The meeting for the purpose of forming a Boating Club, came off on Saturday, ami there is every prospect of the undertaking turning out a success, Mr Caverhill, to whom application had been made, giving free access to his fine lakes, ami also a site for shed , for the boats, and promises to give every assistance in his power to further the interests of the club. An offer from the Wellington Chib to supply two boats at a cost of about £3O, is likely to be accepted. Office-bearers were appointed, Mr Caverhill being installed President. The entrance fee was fixed at £l, with an annua! subscription of £l. In the case of honorary members, the entrance fee and subscription will bo half the usual fee. Prom the interest shown in the matter oil Saturday night, and fronvthe fact of our having several first-class oarsmen in the district, one being the winner of several cups, we may hope short!}' to be able to turn out a team that will not disgrace their colors in any contest in which they in ay engage. The Scott Troupe played here four nights, to very poor houses. They have now left for Inglewood, The promised

feat of carrying a hoy across on too who did not come off, S.i'tt’s jockey evident iy thinking it very possible he might not .come off Smtt free. ~-'A cricket match* between an eleven of Hawera, grid an eleven from Normandy and Waibi, was played here on Saturday last, fpid resulted in a signal victory tor the, former team, Waibi and Nonnanby being disposed of in the second innings fur a total of 12 runs. The fielding of. the Hawera team was excellent, scarcely a chance being * missed. I beard that there ,was 1 a rumor of the club being divided, Nonnanby and Waibi being anxious to form a cinb of their own. I think that this would be a very unwise, proceeding, ns in tlio event-of a challenge Lorn a foreign team, an eleven could only be chosen from the particular club challenged, some of the best players in the district consequently being debarred ; whereas, as the club now stands, an eleven be picked capable of holding their own against any team likely to be brought against them. A practice ground could be formed at Nonnanby, so that those of the club residing there might have every opportunity for practice ; but it is to be sincerely hoped that the idea of disuniting the club may not bo carried out. Let them remember that unity is strength f and that in pulling together they have better opportunities of winning more laurels, and adding ■still more to their long list of triumphs and glorious victories than they ever could were their projected divorce carried out.

At the monthly meeting of the Hawera To\y^g 4 80ard,., on,. Monday last, with the exception of the election of Mr J. Winks aa Chairman, little was done of any importance.
